This Upper East Side ride is part of the Preservation Destinations Daytrippin’ routes from our Autumn 2016 issue. Several landmark venues are located throughout the Piney Woods. The Perot Theatre, in Texarkana, has been fully restored to the splendor exhibited when it opened in 1924. Our route passes Wright Patman Lake and hugs the Louisiana state line. Music City Texas Theater was a project undertaken by the city of Linden when it renovated a 1948 American Legion auditorium; country and Americana greats regularly visit this comfortable hall. It takes only pocket change to see a movie at the Morris Twin Cinema, in Daingerfield, just like it did in the good old days when it opened, in 1923. The Pleasant Jamboree presents toe-tapping country music every Saturday in Mount Pleasant at the 1913 Martin Theatre building.
