Football is king in Texas, and local high school action heats up across the state beginning in late August. Everyone is welcome. It’s just like you remember—concession stand hot dogs, the band playing “Louie, Louie” a bit off key, and lots of slapping pads and helmets only a few yards away.
While the largest 5-A schools tend to garner the most media coverage, there are great games and long standing grudge matches in every district, even in 6-man divisions. If you’re planning a weekend ride, there might be a killer game in the town you’re visiting. Dave Campbell’s Texas Football website is a great place to do some homework before you leave the house.
