I was passing through Buffalo one morning and really hadn’t intended to eat lunch. But the scent of smoky oak hooked me into the Longhorn. Since it was only after 11 o’clock, and I had another 300 miles or so to go, I didn’t want to load up on anything too heavy and fall asleep at the handlebars. So, I ordered a chopped beef on bun. I know! How hard is it to screw up a chopped beef sandwich? Believe me, there are plenty of places out there that try—and try hard! I have to honestly say, I’d make the ride back to Buffalo any day to have another Longhorn sandwich. First of all, it was a two-hander, stacked high with succulent brisket bits. The sauce was really delicious, but didn’t override the smoky flavor of the beef. Just some sliced dills, onion, and a fresh bun made it the perfect lunch on the road. Sometimes simple is best.
