Most Texas riders who come to the Ozarks either know about the Pig Trail or soon will. Many visitors assume that all of AR Hwy. 23 is the Pig Trail, but local riders understand that the designation is actually a 24-mile stretch of AR Hwy. 23, from Ozark north to the junction with AR Hwy. 16 at Brashears, Arkansas. The Pig Trail earned its moniker when it was a popular (though winding to the extreme) alternative route to University of Arkansas Razorbacks football games. I enjoy taking what I call “back road to the Pig Trail,” through the White Rock Mountain Wildlife Management Area in the Ozark–St. Francis National Forest. The area is a wonderful tangle of gravel roads and trails. You can take back roads to the Pig Trail approaching from either the east or the west. Whenever I can, I hop on my KLR to make this ride, approaching from the west, starting out from Berryville, Arkansas.
