Alpine
We recently rolled through Alpine on a hot Sunday afternoon. Nothing was open. We thought we might have to resort to the dreaded convenience store plastic-embalmed food when we saw the lights on at La Trattoria, next to Sul Ross University. They were serving Sunday brunch, and the place was packed. The menu included lunch-y sandwiches as well as more formal plates like the portabella raviolis I ordered. The wait staff was overtaxed, but the food was great. It saved us from having to eat Doritos and corn nuts for lunch. They also serve those weird coffees we’ve all become addicted to. They had something I’d never seen—a ‘White Coffee’ which they say has ‘double the caffeine.’ You’ve been warned.
