So, which one is your favorite western state?
I'm torn between New Mexico (especially the northern part) and Utah. But, for its natural beauty, Utah is incomparable. -------------------- Miguel Asensio

I love Utah...Zion, Bryce, Arches and the stretch of 12 between Escalante is one of the best roads in the country. But I have to give my vote to Colorado. The San Juan skyway, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and lots and lots of stunning mountain riding.
Montana, Wyoming and New Mexico are not bad either. Regards, Davy |

That's a tough choice, but if I HAD to pick just one it would be Colorado for its endless sea of great riding.

I pick Utah. It has the best all around scenery of what I've seen out west. You have desert, desert mountains, alpine peaks, beautiful lakes, and best of all; it's not over crowded.

I'm gonna break the rules here and vote twice, because no one has even mentioned Texas. For great variety -- from the hill country to the piney woods to the Llano Estacado -- it's hard to beat the Lone Star State. Signed: 4th generation Texan and proud of it!!!

Well, that is a good point! And it was my fault. I didn't add Texas to the poll because I had Texas listed under the other forum (Texas and Nearby States) but I see I listed New Mexico in the poll even though it's also in the other forum. To be fair to those that have already voted, I'll keep the poll the same and not add any new choices but we all know Texas is our favorite state.
But if this heat wave continues much longer, I'm going to have to consider moving somewhere else for the summer months. -------------------- Miguel Asensio

Lol! I guess I am the only one voting for Nevada. I was born in California, not my favorite place anymore, way too crowded now. I like to avoid cold and snowy places, so those places like Wyoming, Montana, etc., get crossed of the list without a second thought.
The draw for Nevada to me is Las Vegas. My wife and I like to go there for gambling, orgies, drunkenness and other fun stuff Mike -------------------- |

Texas is a great state for motorcyclists. Lots of variety and year round riding. Miguel, you just need to move to Fort Davis!

Miguel, you just need to move to Fort Davis! I "temporarily" moved to Ft Davis in early July (just for a week) and that was fantastic. Temps in the high 80s, gorgeous roads and little traffic; what else could I ask for? Oh yeah, the best 4th of July celebration I've ever been to. -------------------- Miguel Asensio

I live in my favorite state, TEXAS. Born here, so far have lived all my years here and, God willing, plan on dying here. I enjoy foreign states and the nice things they have to offer but to paraphrase Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, There's no place like Texas.

Just got back from Las Vegas. We took a hike up at Red Rock Canyon. There is also a "scenic drive" there to do by car. In fact my wife and I were the only ones hiking, and it was an ass-kicking hike. After the hike we drove the scenic drive.
That scenic drive would make a great motorcycle ride! It's also a one-way loop, so you don't have to worry about oncoming traffic when you hit the twisties, and it is very twisty. You can rent motorcycles in several places in Las Vegas. Cheers, Mike -------------------- |

The rules say I cannot vote more than once, but I want to put in a good word for Oregon. Fact is, I've never ridden my bike there, but I've prowled around it in a cage a couple of times. It's drop-dead gorgeous, and my bucket list includes a bike trip all through the Beaver State and down to the Redwood Forest. I'm just sayin'...

Yeah, Oregon is in my list of must-visits. It's just so far!!!! That's the downside, all right. Mapquest says it's about 2000 miles from Dallas to Portland. Riding all the way, I'd want at least two weeks to do justice to the trip and a heck of a lot of spending money. -------------------- Wm. M. (Bill) Hendryx
